I had a wonderful time at the Knittn Kitten (their spelling) Fabric, Yarn and Craft Supply Thrift Store yesterday. There’s everything from vintage fabric, household linens, doilies, buttons, beads and yarn. I found several really nice skeins of 100 percent wool, including some hand-dyed mohair (only 3.50!)
The store has been in Portland since 2005, at 7530 N.E. Glisan St. It’s run by a colorful mother and daughter team. The daughter is a skilled fabric artist and painter and has on display a collection of odd hats and very precise animal embroideries. I got embroidery hoops and lots of counted cross stitch canvas — I don’t intend cross stitch but something a little wilder — but I love having the even weave for traditional embroidery.
This is the link to their site, very simple. It’s real thrift store with piles of stuff to touch and look through.
And here are my new fibers!
I will soon turn fifty and wanted to make a doll for my birthday, so I went with the intention of buying only a little bit of silver and brown yarn for my doll’s hair. But once I got there, there was just too much texture to resist.
Just finished reading………. Thanks Joy, for the trip ! I love every word of it and
…. I can proudly say, ‘I know this woman, she’s a friend of mine .’ WOW !
