Fallen Gold

I have painted lots of backgrounds in the past few months but not finished paintings. I’ve been a little depressed and unfocused. But now all these backgrounds are demanding I make art out of them and I’m finding the energy to meet the demands. I love painting people and narratives, but it’s good for me to paint trees.

So here’s my latest finished painting:

Winter Sunset

This is the time of year when we bring evergreens into the house, honoring the green we’ve lost with the change of season. We love the smell of evergreens, pine scent wafting around in our closed houses. I love that.

But I also love the deciduous trees, standing bare out in the cold, magnificent sculptures that tower around us. They speak of loss. They are stripped bare in the coldest, darkest part of the year. They also hold promise, all the colors of spring, all the air we breathe, all the shade we crave in summer — all will be resurrected from these stark giants as the planet turns closer to the sun.

I’ve been sketching and have now started painting these winter trees.

It’s Never Too Late

Though many with disabilities, and who have gone through transitions with age, find ourselves alone, love still remains a priority in many of our hearts. I’ve known several people who found a life partner in their 70s and 80s. I painted this to celebrate that love that can transcend physical problems, age, and social disapproval. Loneliness can be a part of one’s life no matter your age or abilities, even if you’re in a relationship. Still…
